71-Year-Old Greek Orthodox Clergyman Accused Of Sexual Battery

A Greek Orthodox clergyman has been charged with sexual battery after a woman told Tarpon Springs Police that she had been assaulted.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL -- A Greek Orthodox clergyman has been charged with sexual battery after a woman told Tarpon Springs Police that she had been assaulted.

Tarpon Springs Police received a complaint on May 27 and, following an investigation, Koumianos Hatzileris, 71, was arrested on Monday at his residents on North Pinellas Avenue and charged with two counts of sexual battery.

Hatzileris is a clergyman with the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of America, which is part of the Genuine Orthodox Church of America. He is currently assigned to the parish of Dormition of the Theotokos in Clearwater. He goes by Father George but his official title is protopresbyter, according to the GOCA website.

The victim is not a parishioner of Dormition of the Theotokos.
