Dear Governor Scott:

You have been sent several names to consider for appointment to the Florida Public Service Commission.  One of those names is incumbent commissioner Lisa Edgar,  I have made my opposition to Commissioner Edgar’s continued service on the PSC known in the past.  Attached you will find an October 5, 2009 letter I wrote to Commissioner Edgar asking her to resign from the PSC in light of the controversy that surrounded her at that time.  I have also included a news article that detailed the controversy that prompted me to write that letter.

I opposed her re-nomination to the PSC then and still do today.  Commissioner Edgar is a remnant of the “old guard” that predates your administration. You have the unique opportunity to continue “cleaning house” at the PSC and appoint someone without the long-term ties to the utility world that she has.  The Public Service Commission was created in part to give utility customers, the public, the opportunity to have a voice in utility proceedings.  The PSC has become too cozy with utilities in general. Commissioner Edgar is a holdover who will slow if not impede any transformation of the PSC that you may wish to continue pushing for.

I strongly encourage you to not reappoint Commissioner Edgar.  Instead, please choose another qualified applicant who will bring a new perspective that the regulatory body sorely needs.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss this letter please do not hesitate to call on me.

Yours truly,

Mike Fasano

State Senator, District 11
