An Evening with the Author, Downtown New Port Richey Art Gallery

Join us at the Gallery for an enjoyable, informative literary evening with award-winning writer, Kelly Miller, who will read excerpts from her mystery thrillers Dead Like Me and Deadly Fantasies, two novels from her popular series about homocide detective Kate Springer.  Miller will also discuss her journey to become a published author and will perform a book signing after the readings.

Plot Synopsis: Dead Like Me

Homicide Detective Kate Springer is blindsided when she discovers she shares a link with Tampa's newest murder victim. A troubled teen found strangled and dumped in a remote part of town. The bond between them threatens to expose Detective Springer’s past—a past she’s been keeping secret. When the killer finally emerges from the shadows, Kate’s secrets aren’t the only thing on the line. So is her life.

Dead Like Me explores many themes including:

- How childhood experiences color the decisions we make as adults.

- How we see ourselves may be different than how others see us.

- The impact childhood abuse has on adult survivors.

Detective Kate Springer knows that it is time to repay a debt and never hesitates; she plunges into a dark world to find the real killer. Jonathan Grace’s insatiable appetite for living life on the edge had led him to a club where he was encouraged to act out his darkest desires. But what happens when one man's fantasy becomes another's nightmare? Did Dr. Nina Grace kill her husband or did his secret life lead to his death? 

Miller weaves the past and the present together, creating a tangled web for her characters. She uses past events to illuminate the actions of her characters in the present --  the stress of personal issues tangles with and overshadows her work, creating tension and intrigue.
