Gifts of the Sea

Inspiration, where does it come from?

Where does your inspiration come from?  I have been asked this question over the years, to which I reply, it comes from many things, such as; photography, nature, music and people.

 For this particular image, I was reminded of a lovely book, Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.   Lindbergh wrote this work,  taking shells on the beach for inspiration while vacationing on Florida's Captiva Island in the early 1950's.  

After a day of shelling at Three Rooker Bar, in Tarpon Springs, I photographed the shells as a reminder of nature's beauty.  While recalling Gift from the Sea, I felt inspired to write this haiku:

sifting through warm ripples                                                                      fingers gently touch                                                                                      gifts of the sea 

Haiku: a short poem that uses imagistic language to convey the essence of an experience of nature or the season intuitively linked to the human condition.
