With election day just a few days away, March 12th, I want to encourage everyone to come out and vote. I believe I have displayed why I should earn your support this Tuesday, and in this brief blog I will rundown again my experience, dedication, and real solutions to the problems facing Tarpon Springs.

I grew up here in Tarpon Springs my entire life, attending Tarpon Springs Fundamental, Tarpon Springs Middle, and graduating from Tarpon Springs High School. I later attended the University of South Florida and received my degree in Economics. I came back to the community I have spent my young life dedicated to and purchased my first home here from years of saving working for the Tarpon Springs Publix, starting when I was 14. I began my commitment to community service at 6 years old, volunteering for benefits at the Tarpon Springs Elks Lodge. From there, I learned the importance of community and giving back. Throughout the years I have volunteered with the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary, the Boys and Girls Club of Tarpon Springs, The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and many other locally based community activist groups. When I was in 7th grade, I received a scholarship from an organization called “Little Heroes, Big Hearts.” I have always understood that community involvement is important, and my run for City Commissioner Seat 4 is just another extension of that service.
In one of my previous blogs, I wrote about real, attainable solutions to solve the problems in Tarpon Springs. The Tampa Bay Times reporter pointed out the lack of difference between the candidates, and I must disagree with that conclusion. It is very easy to talk about where we want to go, that end result, but the important part is not necessarily where we want to go but how we will get there. I have presented plans for economic development like streamlining the permitting process and instituting more business friendly policies. Actively working towards economic development helps brings jobs and revenue to the city. If we hope to maintain our status as a “full-service city,” we must develop economically. And if we hope to help lift some of our areas out of poverty, we must work to bring jobs and more affordable housing here to Tarpon Springs. These policies have earned me the endorsement of the Pinellas Realtor Organization, who only endorses candidates committed to fiscal responsibility and responsible economic development. One of my other major issues has been community unity, which cannot be achieved through legislation, but can be sparked by it. I have proposed ordinances like a recent one passed in New Port Richey allowing and encouraging community gardens. These community gardens bring beauty to the city at no cost to the taxpayer, and also help to give more members of the community a sense of pride and unification. Finally, I believe we must be proactive in conserving the historical nature of Tarpon Springs. Specifically, with the Sponge Docks improvement plans, we must work harder with the Merchants Association and exhaust all communications with merchants to ensure the plan is approved by most of the merchants and will improve business for our shops. One of the main reasons I love Tarpon Springs is our rich heritage. Whether it is visiting the Sponge Docks, the Historic Train Depot, the Safford House Museum, or Rose Cemetery, there is always “new” history to discover.
