Sustainable Tarpon Springs - An Introduction...
An invitation to be part of a 'Conversation and Action Network' of friendly folks with a vision to see a greener, more Sustainable Tarpon Springs.
If the title of this blog sparks your interest, we are from the same planet! And I’m talking about the planet that should be nearest and dearest to all of our hearts - Planet Earth! I just officially became a resident of Tarpon Springs, along with my husband, Jimmy, and our two kitties, when we bought our first house here, relocating from the other extreme end of the Continental U.S. - Seattle.
‘Sustainable Tarpon Springs’ is not an original idea, but an extension of a larger ‘sustainability movement’ that is thriving in the Pacific Northwest (and probably many other parts of the country). This movement is focused on creating healthy, community networks - not only to deal with widespread emergencies, but to focus on inter-dependently THRIVING in the face of today’s challenges and shortages.

Many of the goals Jimmy and I have embraced over the past decade are:

Conservation efforts, both for water and energy;
Supporting renewable sources of energy, (which included buying wind power);
Reducing, reusing, and recycling as we worked on moving towards ‘zero’ waste;
Riding our bicycles for purpose and pleasure;
Growing some of our own food, and supporting organic, local growers;
Supporting our local, health food co-op;
Seed-saving and seed-sharing;
Supporting permaculture, as a better way of growing through enriching the soil;
Switching to diesel cars - and only using biodiesel when we were in Seattle.
If ANY or ALL of these topics are exciting or interesting to you, we need to start talking! The best thing about Sustainable Tarpon Springs is the potential of this wonderful city to move in a ‘greener’ direction. It is a place that is bursting with possibilities, it is worth making sustainable, and it is small enough for our collective efforts to be achievable! We are eager to meet you once we start the conversation! Together, we can ‘Be the change we want to see in the world!’
