Sustainable Tarpon Springs - Community Soul

Whether we are ‘on the same page’ or not, there is an indivisibility of life that cannot be denied.  Whether we are 100% aligned in our views, our goals, or how to accomplish those goals, at this point in the life of ‘Yours Truly’ - I’m all for UNITY rather than DIVISION.  I’d like to think I am capable of transcending superficial aspects that are different about our unique approaches to becoming sustainable, and find our common denominators to build upon.

Speaking in the Collective here, some of the internal barriers we may bump up against are:  

We may not be into ‘group’ things, or feel inclined to make commitments when we feel too busy to even accomplish the things on our personal list of priorities; 

We may have been ‘guilted’ by others in the past, and prefer not to expose ourselves again; 

We may have a hard time saying No to what we are asked to do and end up saying Yes so often that our lives get out of balance.

Not to dwell on the barriers because barriers can be transformed!  Sharing information on our successes (and failures) - whether it be in gardening, baking bread, brewing biodiesel, or  - WHATEVER your ‘thing’ is, is essential to maintain a healthy ‘energetic flow’ amongst us humans.  Hoarding knowledge is NOT healthy or community-minded.  Even if we feel blissfully independent at this given moment in time, the Universe can present some challenge - like Hurricane Sandy did to the folks along the east coast - and we may become incapacitated without others to share the burden.  We may need a rescue sooner or later.  To be a Community-Builder rather than a Lone Ranger is the most practical path. 

Beyond that, there IS an indivisibility of LIFE that is so real, it will be palpable before this year is up.  We should not see ourselves as living in isolation from others ever, because it simply is not a complete or accurate picture.  We are subatomically part of the same Fabric of Life.  What we do to others, we literally are doing to ourselves.  We have a ‘gift’ in one another, so it might be time to set all the superficial divisions aside and find  the Community Soul that binds us together to survive, to thrive, to celebrate, and to do greater things  together than we can manage on our own!

How do we find our Community Soul?  Check for ‘connection experiences’ right here in Tarpon Springs!  We enjoy meeting people and chatting at the Eco-Bean.  We support local growers and cottage businesses through getting out to the Tarpon Sunday Market.  You may really want to delve deeper into Community Soul by joining us in membership to the Suncoast Co-op to be a grower and a part-owner in a ‘food independence’ project.  Or simply join others in the development of Tarpon Springs community garden plots.  The main thing is to ‘Just Do It’!  Be part of something that connects you at a deeper level to your fellow citizens and find your Community Soul!
