3rd Wednesday Art Series-Underpainting w/ Matt Ellrod

Underpainting with Matt Ellrod

Matt will demonstrate from a live model how to begin an oil portrait with a monochromatic underpainting. Using an underpainting helps to solve the problems of drawing and values (light and shade) before proceeding to color.

Matt Ellrod has been painting since he was 11 years old, receiving his early training from Barney Loiselle, a graduate of the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and attending workshops by renowned painters Nelson Shanks of Philadelphia and Marvin Mattelson of New York. He has won numerous awards, including one of his portrait being a finalist in the 2012 annual competition held by The Artists Magazine. He lives and practices law in Pasco County, Florida.
