Convicted Killer Arrested In Holiday Homicide

HOLIDAY, FL – A 71-year-old man with prior murder and manslaughter convictions is in custody this morning after allegedly confessing in a 911 call to the fatal stabbing of a female in Holiday, according to officials.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office responded to an aggravated assault call today at 3:15 a.m. to a home on the 3500 block of Trask Drive where the injured woman, 42, was found.

The victim, identified as Denise Cook, died at the scene, deputies said.

Arrested as a suspect in the case was Warren Birkbeck, who was convicted for a Massachusetts manslaughter in 1963 and second-degree murder in 1999 in New Hampshire, according to the agency.

Birkbeck allegedly entered Cook's room and stabbed her this morning, then notified a third individual, who also lives in the home, and together they called 911, deputies said, adding that "the suspect admitted to the crime on the 911 call."
