Tarpon Springs Mother Killed While Pushing Stroller On U.S. 19

A mother pushing a baby stroller carrying a 2-year-old with two 6-year-old children walking beside her was killed on U.S. 19.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL -- A mother pushing a baby stroller carrying a 2-year-old with two 6-year-old children walking beside her was killed after being struck by a car on U.S. 19 in Tarpon Springs Saturday, Sept. 22.

According to Tarpon Springs Police, at about 6 a.m., 27-year-old Tymira Latrel Leverson of Tarpon Springs was pushing the stroller south on U.S. 19 just south of the Spruce Street intersection between the shoulder and the right turn lane for Pine Street. The 6-year-olds were walking side by side on the paved shoulder between the stroller and the grass.

According to police, a Nissan pickup truck entered the turn lane to make a right onto Pine Street and struck the mother. The impact caused the stroller to flip over and the 2-year-old was ejected but was not struck.

When they arrived, police officers said Leverson was laying off the side of the road in the grassy area and the three children were standing next to her. Officers immediately began CPR. Leverson has shallow breathing and a slow pulse. Fire Rescue paramedics continued CPR on the way to Florida Hospital of North Pinellas. Due to the serious head injury she sustained, Leverson was transferred to Tampa General Hospital where she died at 8:44 a.m.

Leverson was the mother of the 2-year-old, Deava Dixon, and one of the 6-year-old children, Tre'Mont Triplett. year-old boys. She was the legal guardian of the other 6-year-old Layla Lewis.

The 2-year-old was taken to Florida Hospital of North Pinellas for treatment of minor injuries. All three children are now in the care of Leverson's mother, Stacey Leverson of Clearwater.

The driver of the pickup truck, Joseph Vitale, 33, of Port Richey, pulled over following the accident and cooperated with police.
