Why I have Announced my Candidacy for Pinellas County Commissioner, District 4.

I recently announced my candidacy for the Republican nomination forΒ Pinellas County Commissioner, District 4. Β The reasons are many as to why I chose to run for this seat and in coming weeks I will define them. Β Pinellas County has depleted its reserves to a level equivalent toΒ the City of Tarpon Springs, Approximately $10,000,000. Β  For PinellasΒ County to maintain such low reserves is unacceptable. Β In addition, in 1996 there was a referendum that was passed by 72% of the voters that stated we wanted term limits for Commissioners of 2 terms for a total of 8 years. Β Four of the seated Commissioners exceed the term limits thatΒ 72% of the voters approved. This was accomplishedΒ through court challenges of the referendum.Β  Please read all the articles on line regarding this issue.Β In addition we will be asked by a newΒ referendum to vote for another 1% sales tax to fund public transportation light rail etc. for Pinellas County, yet North Pinellas County will get little in the way of much needed expanded public transportation. Β  I strongly believe thatΒ the additional 1% sales taxΒ will hurt tourism and will not assist with improved transportationΒ to meet the needs of North Pinellas Residents if implemented in its proposed form. Β
We are facing an aging population that is concerned about how they will be able to stay in their homes when they must give up their driving and a young population having to ride buses to work that canΒ take hours to get to where they are employed. Β  We need improvements not promises that will later not be fulfilled. Β There is a definite lack of credibility based on the 1996 referendum that has never been implemented.
Β  In talking to residents in District 4, Β I am hearing that voters feel they have no real voice in the County. Β  It is time for a change. Β We are at a critical time in our counties' future. Β We voted for term limits and the Commissioners who will not voluntarily acknowledge the term limits need to be sent a message of change.
As an announced candidate for the Republican Nomination for Β Pinellas County Commissioner, District 4, Β I need nearly 2,000 approved petitions signed by voters in District 4. Β If Β you would consider signing or assisting in my grass roots campaign I can be reached at timkeffalascampaign@gmail.com or call 727-510-3934. Β You do not need to be a registered Republican, but you must be aΒ registered voter in Distirct 4 Pinellas County. Β
Β  I have been an advocate for over 25 years in Tarpon Springs and I will work to give North Pinellas County a voice that has gone unheard since 1996, even after WE voted overwhelmingly for term limits Β for county commissionersΒ and for fair representation. Β
There are three Key issues for Pinellas County Voters: Transportation, Tourism and Term Limits.
I will work to make NORTH PINELLAS A TOURIST DESTINATION.Β
