Addiction!

Do you have an addiction?  No, not a drug addiction.  But an addiction such as chocolate, coffee, maybe sports, a love for vintage or fast cars?

I’m finding that I have an addiction.  Yes, I confess…..(Are you ready for this?)  I’m addicted to Box Tops and Labels for Education.

Yes, It’s true!  Every time I see one of those little guys it’s like lights and sirens are going off in my head.  I’m sure you’ve heard of that mom or dad that raids the pantry belonging to every friend and family member, yep….that’s me.  Not to mention the emails I send to co-workers and the virtual e-cards I send out to thank individuals that collect these for me.  Well, let me you tell how bad my addiction can get…..(True story my friends.)

One day I dropped my son off at school and was leaving the parking lot to go to work.  As I was driving down the road in a residential neighborhood, my eye caught sight of the recycle bins that were sitting beside the road.  I thought to myself, “I wish everyone would recycle.  Wouldn’t that be awesome.”  And then, that’s when it happened. (Cue the suspense music.) Sitting ever so nicely in a recycle bin was not ONE but TWO boxes of cereal that I knew had Box Tops on them.  (Yes, I pretty much know every product available that has a Box Top or Label for Education on them.) And there they were….two Box Tops sitting right on the edge of the box that was crushed and clearly ready to be discarded.   What was a girl to do???  Should I stop?  Should I get out of my car and dig in someone’s trash?  What if the owner came out?  Would they be furious or would they welcome my eagerness?  Is digging in someone’s recycle bin legal?  All of these thoughts ran thru my head in a matter of seconds.  (Not to mention I had time to think because the speed limit is only 15 mph in a school zone.)  Should I stop or should I go?  What if there are more in there?  Maybe the recycle bin at the next house has some too?

Are you just as addicted?  Did you know that by sending in Box Tops and Labels for Education you can help your child’s school?  Both Box Tops and Labels for Education are on many products (I promise I won’t rattle them all off to you.) however many of these products may be sitting in your pantry right now as you read this!!  (Ok, I won’t invite myself over to frantically go through your pantry.)  But isn’t it great to have an addiction worth publicly admitting?  Try it, I’m willing to bet you’ll be looking for these things everywhere you go.  And what a good feeling you will have when you’re able to send your child to school with them.  What a great way to stay involved and to help our school.  So go ahead try it!

By the way, I DO NOT recommend going thru recycle or trash bins!!  And if you’re wondering if I stopped to get the Box Tops…………some secrets are better left untold.
