Fifth Third Bank Partners with Moffitt Cancer Center to Provide “Credit Health” Checks during Men’s Health Forum

Blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol weren’t the only important numbers being examined at the 13th Annual Men’s Health Forum recently held at the University of South Florida. Fifth Third Bank (Tampa Bay) partnered with Moffitt Cancer Center to provide “credit health” checks and financial counseling to the hundreds of underserved and uninsured men who attended the event.

“It’s not often that you hear the words ‘finance’ and ‘health’ in the same sentence,” said Tony Sasso, membership banking officer at Fifth Third Bank (Tampa Bay). “But financial problems can have adverse effects on a person’s health – leading to stress, depression and anxiety. Since finance is our area of expertise, we wanted to work with doctors to help in the ways we could."

At the forum, Sasso gave a presentation titled “Is Your Credit in Good Health?” It was also presented in Spanish.

According to Sasso, Tampa Bay residents can follow four simple tips to improve and track their financial health.

  • Keep track of credit reports annually through AnnualCreditReport.com.
  • Avoid closing unused credit cards, as this can have a negative impact on credit scores.
  • Pay off debt as soon as possible, rather than moving it around.
  • Keep track of personal spending habits to learn exactly where the money is going.

The Men’s Health Forum is a shared effort by Moffitt Cancer Center and nearly 100 community organizations partnering to offer free health screenings, social services and vital resources.
