TTGA Compete in the 25th Anniversary of the Gasparilla International Gymnastics Meet
The 25th Annual Gasparilla Classic International Gymnastics meet took place at the Tropicana Field Stadium(Home of the Tampa Bay Rays) in St. Petersburg on March 1-3. The Gasparilla Classic is one of the largest gymnastics meets held in the United States. This International meet included Women’s and Men’s gymnastics. There were approximately 2,900 gymnasts - which 2,200 were female and 700 male. The competing teams represented 21 States and 6 other Countries; the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Jamaica, Mexico, and Venezuela.
Our local gymnastics team (Temple Terrace Gymnastics Academy – TTGA) was one of the teams that participated. There were 14 members of the team that competed. TTGA’s Level 4 had 9 members participate, Level 5 had 4 members, and Prep Optional Novice had 1 member.
There were some tough competition considerng the vast amount of gymnasts, but overall individually and as a team they did exceptionally well. The Level 4 did not place as a team, but everyone did receive a medal in at least one or more of the events (vault, beam, bars, floor, and all around). There were 5 team members that received a trophy for scoring in the top 3 in the All Around category. The Level 5 team also brought home an additional trophy for 3rd place on Small Team.
