Learn more about the musical from one of the actors.

Temple Terrace Patch Contributor Patti McDonald sat down with Melanie Sholl, who is one of the actors playing the stepsister, Portia, in ’s production of β€œ.” The three-act Rodgers and HammersteinΒ musical runs on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through Aug. 14.

Temple Terrace Patch: Why did you decide to be involved with the "Cinderella" production?

Melanie Sholl: I have known the story of β€œCinderella” since I was little; I grew up with it. I just love all of the characters and I really like all of the songs that are in this Rodger’s and Hammerstein version.

Temple Terrace Patch: What is your favorite song in the production and why?

Sholl: I don’t know if I could narrow it down to one song. I like a few including β€œThe Stepsisters Lament,” and β€œDo I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" The lyrics in β€œThe Stepsisters Lament” are just really funny. I think the lyrics in β€œDo I Love You Because You're Beautiful” are just so sweet and romantic. It is just a really beautiful song.

Temple Terrace Patch: Obviously the story of Cinderella is a classic. What do you like most about the story?

Sholl: Like I said before, I grew up with this story. I like how the underdog in the family rises up and she is the one who gets the happy ending.

Temple Terrace Patch: Who is your favorite character in the story and why?

Sholl: I love the stepsisters, but I would have to say my favorite character is Cinderella. She gets to wear a really beautiful dress and she gets to dance and do a lot of waltzing.
