An Interview With Ruth Kegel Of 'Cinderella'

Learn more about the musical from the director.

Temple Terrace Patch Contributor Patti McDonald sat down with Ruth Kegel, director of ’s production of “.” The three-act Rodgers and Hammerstein musical runs on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through Aug. 14.

Temple Terrace Patch: Why did you decide to be involved with the “Cinderella” production?

Ruth Kegel: I typically direct Masque Theatre’s summer youth productions. I most recently directed productions such as “Beauty And The Beast,” “Alice In Wonderland,” “Willy Wonka,” and “Peter Pan.”

Temple Terrace Patch: What is your favorite song in the production and why?

Kegel: My favorite song in the production is “Ten Minutes Ago.” It is just a beautiful song. My favorite lyrics are “I have found her; she’s an angel with the dust of the stars in her eyes.” Those are just some beautiful lyrics.

Temple Terrace Patch: Obviously the story of “Cinderella” is a classic. What do you like most about the story?

Kegel: I like it because there is always somebody in the world that works really hard and never gets the reward. It is a story that shows if you are nice person, or if you work hard enough at something, that you’re dreams can come true. I love how she rises above and exposes the stepmother and stepsisters for who they are. It’s just a nice story.

Temple Terrace Patch: Who is your favorite character in the story and why?

Kegel: My favorite characters are the stepsisters. The dialogue and songs are so well written and just really humorous. Those characters are wonderful, and the actors who play them all add their own twist to the characters.
