1st Grade Adventures Are Imminent
I'm looking forward to the new school year with a 1st grader.
1st day of 1st grade! Where does the time go. (Linkin Park would say-“Right out the window.”)
All the preparations have been made. School supplies and uniforms have been purchased, Open House was attended and the 1st day of school has once again arrived. What a difference 1 year makes. This time last year, I was a nervous wreck. I couldn’t stop thinking and wondering if my son would be ok. Would he find friends. Would he be respectful and listen. Every “what if” scenario would play out in my head. What if he gets hurt. What if someone else hurts him. What if he gets lost…. And then yes….the tears fell as I walked away from his classroom.

1 year later……
Although my heart is still (as Junie B. Jones* would say) “pumpy” and my hands a bit sweaty…..I felt confident. Confident that my son will NOT get lost, that he WILL be able to open all his lunch items by himself and that he will NOT forget to zip up his pants after using the restroom. (Ok…that may be pushing it….honestly, when do boys finally remember to do that???) After being a kindergarten mom for a full year, I now feel like the “know it all” kid that knows nothing. Yep….I feel like I’m going into this year knowing way more than I ever did last year and yet there is still so much more ahead. And NO…I’m happy to report that there were no tears shed this year. (Again, what a difference a year makes.)

So, during the course of the year, I hope you will follow my adventures of being a “know it all” mom who will often discover she knows nothing at all. I’m excited to experience this wild adventure of 1st grade and hope that you will join me.
P.S. Junie B. Jones is a fictional character in a chapter book series by Barbara Park.
