AYA Goes Pink for Cancer Awareness
School raises awareness for Cancer Research and money for families battling the disease.
For the past two years the school staff and parent volunteers at the American Youth Academy have worked together to raise awareness and money for the fight against cancer. During the last week of October, the school turns PINK for a WEEK and provides fun activities for students, while raising money at the same time. Some of the money that is raised goes to the American Cancer Society, while the rest goes directly to families in need in the community. This year, AYA sent representatives to the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk” in downtown Tampa on Saturday, October 22. During PINK WEEK at school, parent volunteers sold Cold Stone Ice Cream, families painted Pink Tiles that will be displayed in the school’s main corridor, students played “Can You Guess How Many are in the Jar” games with Pink Candy Whoppers and Pink Bubble Gum. Finally, students, teachers, staff, and parents wore Pink on National Pink Hijab Day, which was October 26. A hijab is the head covering traditionally worn by Muslim women to show modesty. $800 was raised! Go AYA Eagles, and thank you to all the families who participated and donated!
