AYA Teachers, Parents and Students sponsor Community Dinner for Ramadan

Food and Fun had by all as the American Youth Academy sponsors Community Dinner for Ramadan

This past Friday night, teachers, staff, parents and students from the American Youth Academy (AYA) sponsored a community dinner celebrating breaking of the day’s fast.  For Muslims, this is the holy month of Ramadan and is the Islamic month of fasting.  During this month participating Muslims refrain from eating and drinking during daylight hours, which is intended to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God.  When the sun sets, families and friends get together and enjoy a wonderful meal called the Iftar meal.  Local mosques offer FREE dinner each night of Ramadan and welcome anyone in the community to join.  Since the student body at AYA is so diverse, AYA’s night to sponsor the dinner is always extra special.  Parents and staff members bring in a rich variety of foods and desserts from all over the world to share with each other.  The best part of the evening was seeing friends after the long summer break and welcoming new teachers to the community.
