Bake Sale Raises Money and Awareness for Somalia

Local bake sale raises money to help the people suffering from the deadly famine in Somalia.

A first grade teacher from the American Youth Academy and a community volunteer, both of whom wish to remain anonymous, co-organized a Bake Sale last Friday evening to help raise money for and awareness of the deadly famine in Somalia.  All the proceeds will go to the local chapter of Muslims Without Borders, which is "the first student-based relief agency and aid organization dedicated to helping alleviate suffering throughout the world."  During the bake sale, AYA students and community members learned more about the horrific situation going on in Somalia and how easy it is to help others and make a difference!

When asked how the bake sale went, AYA's teacher replied, “I am very happy to say that we raised over a thousand dollars at tonight's bake sale! First of all, we want to thank Allah, for granting us His blessings, all the people who brought their baked goods, along with the volunteers who helped sell, and last but not least, the members of the community at Islamic Community of Tampa for their generosity!  We are happy for the opportunity to help Muslims Without Boarders and hope the funds get to Africa quickly.”
