Who Hates Mondays?

Are Mondays the worst day of the week for you? How about for your kids?

Monday! The start of a new week! Aren’t you excited? (Cheesy smile!)

Last Monday, I endeavored to wake my son up for school when he ever so politely (total sarcasm) reminded me that it was Monday. Yes, he was correct. It was Monday.

That was when he again politely (cough, cough) informed me that he DOESN’T go to school on Mondays. Oh, how I wish I could adapt that thinking when it comes to work. With my ever so lackadaisical self I rolled into his bed with him and told him that it was indeed Monday and we did indeed have to go to work and school. (Hating the idea of it myself.)

After five minutes of silence, he looked at me ever so sweetly and said, “But for the last two Mondays I got to stay home. Can we just do it one more time, Mommy? Please?”

Oh, how that sweet little boy tries to use his smarts to outwit me while being ever so sweet. Bad thing is: He was right. He had been out of school the past two Mondays. I gently remind him of how smart he was to remember that but NO, he still had to go to school.

I then grabbed my morning coffee (a requirement for a Monday morning) and realized how quickly children fall into a habit, routine or schedule. (This is a prime example.) So off we went to school, and as we parted ways, he again whispered in his sweet innocent voice, “I hate Mondays.”  (Which made me laugh inside, as most of us do hate them.)

At least . Hopefully that will make them better for him.

Now if only I could arrange for an early release day at work.
