Brooks-DeBartolo Athletes Excel Even Without Sports Fields, Gym
Students don't seem to need facilities at the school in order to do well athletically. The schools baseball team was this year's State 2A Regional Champs, for example.

Lack of home field advantage was not a problem for Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate High School 2010-11 State 2A Baseball Regional Champions.
The semi-final loss in May was against nationally-ranked Orangewood Christian (ranked 14 in the nation with a 31-1 record).

“Even without their own baseball diamonds, basketball courts or gymnasium, students are excelling in sports,” said Coach Areon Atkinson, head of the Athletic Department.
All sports are varsity. While some sports are practiced at neighborhood parks, students are typically bussed or parents provide transportation for all athletic practices.

The school began baseball in 2008. According to school spokesman Brian Butler, major league baseball teams have drafted four of the school’s graduates.
Reggie Williams Jr. was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. He’s currently playing for one of their minor-league teams.
Jadamion (JD) Williams was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and is playing for one of their minor-league teams.
Kelvin Mention Jr. was drafted by the Minnesota Twins. He’s currently playing for one of their minor-league teams.
Javier Reynoso was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and is still undecided. He may go to college rather than directly to professional baseball, Butler said.
Basketball was introduced to both boys and girls in 2008. The girls' team finished Class 2A district runner up.
Softball and volleyball programs began in 2008. Bowling for boys and girls started in 2010.
