New Water Line Will Give 85-Year-Old Gardener A Break

After nine years of watering "Elia's Corner" by hand, the City of Temple Terrace is helping Elia Wilkinson get a water line.

No more toting jugs of water for Elia Wilkinson. On May 17, approved a request by the (TTGC) to create “Elia’s Corner.”

Elia, 85, has planted and tended a parcel of land bordered by Riverhills Drive, Springdale Place and Bahamas Avenue for nine years. She has planted five Chickasaw Plum, three Tabebuia and two Crepe Myrtle trees.

The only water, other than from Mother Nature, has come from Wilkinson carrying bottles of water to the site. City Council’s approval will enable this passionate gardener to continue her quest to beautify this once blighted corner.

The city’s public works department will run a water line with a locked spigot to limit use of the water to those with a key.

The TTGC has agreed to pay up to $500 to install this water line and will erect a sign to designate the property as “Elia’s Corner.”
