Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc. Presents Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

"Paint for Peace: You Are Not Forgotten"

Tampa, FL – January 10, 2015

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his tremendous accomplishments during the Civil Rights Movement, Corporation to Develop Communities (CDC) of Tampa, Inc. will be hosting “Paint for Peace: You Are Not Forgotten” at Al Barnes Park on January 19, 2015 from 10AM-2PM. The event seeks volunteers to paint stomps. Lunch and t-shirts will be provided to volunteers.

“Paint for Peace: You Are Not Forgotten” pays homage to those in our community who have lost their lives to violence as well as continues to echo the message of peace and anti-violence. Individuals will pay tribute to those who have died, as a result of violence, by painting stomps in memory of their loved ones. Additional volunteers will paint famous quotes of Peacemakers throughout history on the stomps. CDC of Tampa, Inc. staff will honor John Singleton, a CDC Youth Leadership Movement student who lost his life to gunshot violence and whose memory still reverberates the need to continue spreading a message of peace. The event will culminate with loved ones offering words of inspiration followed by the release of butterflies as a symbol of hope, healing, and community transformation.

The national Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service was created to pay respect to the civil rights leader as well as challenge Americans to take civil action and participate in volunteer services that bridge barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision across the country.
