Elderly Hit-And-Run Victim Dies

The search for the motorist involved continues with a reward now being offered in the case.

A 93-year-old man hit by a car while crossing Busch Boulevard Tuesday morning has died from his injuries.

The Tampa Police Department announced Williams Thompson’s death Thursday as a search for the driver involved in the crash continues. Thompson, the police department said, was crossing the road in the 2800 block of East Busch Boulevard outside of the crosswalk around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a 1995 gold Saturn.

Thompson, police wrote in an email to media, hit the car’s hood and windshield. The driver took off westbound on Busch following the crash. He died at a local hospital Wednesday evening.

The Saturn was later found abandoned on the west side of the road at 18th Street and Fairbanks Street, police say. Witnesses told police there were several people in the car. Investigators would now like to speak to them. While the passengers currently do not face charges, they are possible if information relevant to the crime is withheld, the agency stated.

In an effort to help investigators find the driver, Crime Stoppers is now offering a $3,000 reward in the case. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), report anonymously online at www.crimestopperstb.com, or use the TipSubmit Mobile app.
