Bluegrass Concert

Eddie & Martha Adcock will be coming this Thursday, March 8 to Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Temple Terrace.

It's been a lot of years since I saw first their name on the marquee of a St. Petersburg venue but I remembered hearing them mentioned on Tom Henderson's bluegrass show on WMNF radio so I went to the show and they blew me away and I've been a fan ever since.

Over the years, Eddie has played with Mac Wiseman, did a short stint with Bill Monroe, was a member of the “classic” Country Gentlemen--which earned him a place in IBMA's Hall of Honor, was one of the Masters of Bluegrass—along with Josh Graves, Kenny Baker, and Jesse McReynolds, played backup for country superstar David Allan Coe, and headed bands of his own.

Good musicianship in bluegrass is a gimme and Eddie plays guitar and banjo hot but always tasteful—with touches and licks that other players have been trying to copy for years. Martha plays rhythm guitar with a clock-like precision.

Sometimes they add other players to their lineup and this time they've added Tom Gray—another Classic Country Gentlemen alum and Hall of Honor member—on bass. Both Tom and Eddie are also in the Virginia Hall of Fame.

Eddie & Martha put their own stamp on songs from across a wide musical spectrum and they have originals, too. Their harmonies are smooth and sweet.

Above all, they're fun!
