Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School Holds Free College Admissions Presentation and Community Service Fair for Students

A free college admissions presentation and community service fair will be held at Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School (BDCHS) to help educate students and parents about college admission and Florida Bright Futures Scholarship requirements.  This event will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at BDCHS.  The school is located at 11602 N. 15th Street, Tampa, FL 33612.

The event begins sharply at 10 a.m. with a college admission presentation titled College Preparation through High School by College Resource Specialist Debra Landesberg and includes important information that high school students should do now to prepare for college. Ms. Landesburg is the Founder and President of My College Resource, a college guidance company.

Following the presentation is the Helping the Community, Helping Each Other Community Service Fair which allows students the opportunity to learn about various community service organizations.  As many students are not aware of the necessary requirements to receive the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, a goal of the fair is to connect students to the community in order to fulfill community service hour requirements for scholarships.

All three Bright Futures Scholarship award levels require between 30-100 community service hours for 2011-2012 high school graduates. “The hope is that students will take strides academically and through volunteerism to prepare for their college journey. If we can get them connected to a community service organization early on, not only will that help them build character and a sense of responsibility for others, but it will also help them with Bright Futures,” said BDCHS Principal Kristine Bennett.

BDCHS welcomes all current and prospective high school students and their parents. Students from other high schools are welcome to attend. Community service organizations interested in participating or for more information contact Terrence Fleming at TFleming@bdchs.org or at 813.971.5600.
