Fletcher Avenue Widening: On the Books, But No Money Yet

Hillsborough County is exploring a widening project that would take the eastern portion of the road up from four to six lanes, but the estimated $78 million in funding just isn't available yet.

A six-lane East Fletcher Avenue is in the future, but how long that will be remains a mystery.

Hillsborough County has been conducting a study to map out improvement alternatives to help the road better accommodate daily traffic, but it lacks the funding necessary to actually start turning the dirt, according to the county’s website.

The design and engineering study is expected to be completed in the near future, the website says. The county has even conducted a few public hearings to get resident input on the project.

The hope is to eventually widen the road from Bruce B. Downs to Interstate 75, according to The Tampa Tribune. The meetings and study are being conducted to help the county apply for federal transportation funding to pay for part of the project.

Residents with questions about the project can call 813-635-5400 for additional information. The county has also created a YouTube video of a meeting held on the topic earlier this month.
