On the Wednesday evenings during Lent this year we will highlight some of the expressions of faith in our Lenten hymns. Each Wednesday we will focus on one of the hymns, reading the biblical background for the hymn, learning about the particular crisis or triumph in the composer’s life of faith that gave rise to the hymn, and then singing the hymn. All of this will be done within the context of our familiar Wednesday evening style of worship characterized by chant as well as hymns. Chant is an ancient style of music used among the Jews before the time of Christ and carried over into the Christian Church. You are familiar with this musical style since we chant Psalms together most Sundays, and I chant the "Preface" in the Communion liturgy.
Worship on Wednesday evenings will start at 7:00 each Wednesday from Ash Wednesday, March 5 until Holy Week begins with Palm/Passion Sunday on April 13. Your worship life will be enriched as we think on our sin and our Savior, and as we explore and then sing the hymns of faith that grew out of that Lenten focus.
