Officials Continue Work on Propane Leak
About 25 percent of propane remains in a leaking 18,000-gallon underground tank.

Hillsborough Fire Rescue is still on scene at E. 131st Avenue at the in the process of burning off vapors from an 18,000-gallon propane tank that was Thursday afternoon.
About 25 percent or 3,600 gallons of propane still needs to be burned off, which will keep E. 131st Avenue closed between N. 23rd and N. 27th streets until about 3 or 4 p.m., said Ray Yeakley, public information officer for Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
Fire Rescue personnel are working with Heritage Propane to get the . Workers were able to offload much of the propane when it was under pressure in its liquid state, Yeakley said. The amount that remains is small, he explained, and can’t be pumped out. It will be burned off in its vapor state.

“It’s not a threat to anybody,” Yeakley said. “It doesn’t pose a risk.”
