No Armed Suspect Found On Tampa's USF Campus, Officials Say

A sighting of a possible armed person raised red flags Monday afternoon.

Update: University of South Florida officials say there was no confirmation of an armed person when police checked out the school's northwest corner after reports of a suspicious person came in Monday afternoon.

TAMPA, FL — The University of South Florida is warning students that a suspicious person, possibly armed, was spotted near the northwest corner of the campus Monday afternoon.

“Urgent alert,” the school tweeted at 2 p.m. “Avoid area. Emergency personnel responding.”

The person is described as a black male in his early 30s. He was seen wearing a tan trench coat and green hat. Officials are asking people to steer clear of the northwest corner of the campus.
