Primary Results Are Mixed Bag for Hillsborough Incumbents

Hillsborough will be getting a new property appraiser while Victor Crist claims another term on the county commission.

With all of Hillsborough County’s voting precincts reporting in, today’s primary election seems to have been a mixed bag for incumbents.

Rob Turner, the county’s property appraiser, has seen the end of the road in that office, but veteran County Commissioner Victor Crist will hold on to his seat for another term.

Turner faced former State Sen. Ronda Storms in the primary, but came up short for the Republican nomination. Storms now faces Democrat Bob Henriquez and Rob Townsend and James DeMio in the Nov. 6 general election. Townsend and DeMio have no party affiliation.

Meanwhile, Crist only faced fellow Republican Sharon Calvert in his bid to reclaim the District 2 county commission seat. Since challenger Becki Forsell withdrew, Crist’s victory today earns him the seat.

Hillsborough has 704,398 registered voters. An estimated 110,606, or 15.70 percent, of Hillsborough’s voters cast ballots in today’s election, according to the supervisor of elections website.
