Students Learn What They Need for College

Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate High School was host to a college admission presentation and community service fair for students Sep. 24.

More than 85 parents and students learned important information about what high school students should do now to prepare for college at Sept. 24.

“College Preparation Through High School” was presented by college resource specialist Debra Landesberg. She is the founder and president of My College Resource, a college guidance company.

Students who apply for Florida’s Bright Futures Scholarships need community service hours. Representatives from organizations in which students can earn these service hours were on hand to talk with students and assist with volunteer applications. Opportunities such as fund-raising, computer tech specialist, marketing and guest relations were offered.

Organizations represented included: The Humane Society of Tampa Bay; Redemption Song; Derrick Brooks Charities; Metropolitan Ministries; and the .

Principal Kristine Bennett said she was pleased with the turnout and plans to make the fair an annual event.
