Tampa Nonprofit to Honor Community Heroes at Festive Awards Banquet

TAMPA, Fla. – (Aug. 27, 2013) – The University Area CDC (UACDC) will be hosting its 2013 Awards Banquet “The World Next Door: Celebrating the Cultures of our Community!,” Sept. 6 at 6:00 p.m. The second annual event will be a cultural celebration held at the University Area Community Center, located at 14013 North 22nd Street, Tampa, FL 33613. Countries such as Haiti, Puerto Rico and Mexico will be represented through art, music and native cuisine, among other entertainment.

The UACDC Awards Banquet will honor individuals, businesses and organizations that have served in the University Area, Hillsborough County and beyond throughout the year. The celebration will showcase those who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment and generosity in the community.

“We have some of the most selfless and gracious nominees this year,” said Dan Jurman, executive director and CEO of UACDC. “They are constantly in the community, putting others’ needs before their own. They have made a huge impact in the community, and we are excited to honor them with an award.”

This year’s event will be an interactive and exciting world carnival featuring art, entertainment, dinner and dancing, and will be highlighted by a silent auction. Proceeds from the event are given back to the community through services designed to assist and benefit University Area children, families and individuals. Special guests will include Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive lineman, Davin Joseph, and wide receiver, Vincent Jackson.

Last year, more than 1,200 community leaders, business partners and government officials gathered with Commissioner Victor D. Crist to honor 30 grassroots organizations that have made a difference in the lives of University Area Community residents. This year’s celebration will not only recognize community advocates, but also highlight the various Latin and Caribbean communities that are represented in the Tampa Bay area.

Tickets for the 2013 UACDC Awards Banquet are $50 per person or $90 per couple and are available for purchase in advance by registering at www.uacdc.org.
