The Open House is open to any educators or parents that wish
to learn more about our Field Trip program and how it benefits children to
learn where their food comes from. Our Lead Educator, Chris Hawthorne, will
take teachers and parents on an hour-long field trip tour of our organic farm
and educational facility followed by a half hour Q&A session from
11:00-11:30am.
Sweetwater Organic Community Farm was established in 1995 as a nonprofit
community-supported urban organic farm and environmental education center in Tampa, Florida.
We are located on 6 acres of suburban property along the Sweetwater Creek in Tampa in the Town n Country neighborhood, in Hillsborough County, Florida.
We operate a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Membership program, farmer's
market, workshops, seasonal evens, and volunteer opportunities.
Our field trip program is open to the general public and appropriate for
audiences of all ages. We provide hands-on, interactive field trip programs
about local and organic agriculture, sustainability, and nutrition for visitors
of all ages from public and private schools, youth groups, and other area
organizations. Attendees get to participate in all the major steps of farming,
including taking home a potted plant and harvesting a fresh, organic salad for
lunch.
