70th Anniversary of Temple Terrace Community Church
The city's oldest church celebrated 70 years on Sunday.
Pastor Ted Fielland led members of his congregation, friends and family in celebration Sunday, 70 years after the Oct. 19, 1941 founding of .
“It was wonderful to have so many of our members involved in this event,” Fielland said.
Janet Moyer, church council chairperson, presented a plaque to hang in the narthex to honor the five founding families of the church: Tom and Ethel Cureton; Marcus and Eloise Petersen; Bass and Clifford Richardson; Harry and Ruth Roller; and Frank and Corrine Smith.

Three daughters of Marcus and Eloise Petersen attended the celebration: Joan Rushing; Jean Fingar; and Jane Rushing. Jane Rushing is mother of Marsha Rushing Fielland, Pastor Fielland's wife.
Joan Rushing was the first woman married in the church in 1947. The Rev. Walter Metcalf officiated.

Fielland consecrated the chapel with water from the well of Mary, mother of Jesus, near Ephesus. Tanya Smith and JoAnn Woodard brought this water to the church when they traveled to Ephesus.
