Upskirt Peeper Targeted Mall Shoppers, Deputies Say

TAMPA, FL — A 31-year-old Hooters cook faces criminal charges after Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say he was caught peeping up women’s skirts at University Mall Monday, using a cellphone to help him capture photographs.

According to the sheriff’s office, Johnathan Rogers was seen – and recorded – as he walked through Sears and Macy’s around 12:45 p.m. Monday at the 2200 E. Fowler Ave. mall.

“Rogers was recorded standing behind the victims and then utilizing his phone to photograph up the
victims' skirts without their knowledge,” an email from the sheriff’s office said.

Mall security confronted Rogers about the peeping and brought him to the loss prevention office in Macy’s, the email noted. Once there, the sheriff’s office said Rogers admitted to one of the offenses.

His phone and the video evidence were both impounded, the agency noted. Before deputies can search the cellphone to determine how many victims there might have been, a search warrant must be obtained, the agency noted.

In the meantime, Rogers has been charged with two counts of video voyeurism. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail Monday and was being held Tuesday in lieu of $4,000 bond. Rogers listed his home address as Okeechobee in jail records. He, however, stated he was a cook at the Channelside Drive Hooters, jail records indicate.

No further information is being released at this time.
