USF Cheek Kisser Caught, Police Say

The Gulfport man is accused of giving a woman an unwanted kiss.

TAMPA, FL β€” The University of South Florida Police Department has announced an arrest in a Saturday battery on the campus.

According to the agency, the incident in question unfolded around 4 p.m. in parking lot No. 53 in the USF Greek Village.

A man approached a female student in the parking lot and asked where he could buy an umbrella. The student directed the man to the USF Bookstore. As she was giving directions, the man, an email from police said, wrapped his arms around the woman and kissed her on the cheek. The girl tried to run, but the man grabbed her again, police said, but then let her go.

Joe Aoj Carter, 26, of Gulfport, a former student, was charged in the case Tuesday. Police say university housing staff recognized the suspect’s description as Carter and called the agency.

Carter was charged with battery. He was being held in the Hillsborough County Jail in lieu of $500 bond as of Wednesday morning.
