USF Monday Night Jazz Series featuring John Coltrane’s Blue Train

The USF Jazz Faculty will be recreating John Coltrane's famous Blue Train recording. Blue Train, released in 1957 on Blue Note Records, was recorded at the famous Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ. It is Coltrane's second solo album, the only one he recorded for Blue Note as a leader, and the only one he conceived personally for the label. In a 1960 interview, Coltrane cited this album as his favorite recording to that point in his career. Come and join us for a historic evening, celebrating one of the great recordings in the jazz legacy.
