Watch the Woman’s Club Deliver Easter Lilies

The GFWC Temple Terrace Woman's Club distributed plants to the community on Tuesday just in time for Easter.

The GFWC Temple Terrace Woman’s Club got a jump on the Easter bunny earlier this week.

Although Peter Cottontail will be bringing colorfully painted eggs to Temple Terrace homes Sunday, the Woman’s Club made its own Easter deliveries Tuesday.

“Today, we are distributing Easter plants to people who have ordered them through the woman’s club,” said Maryrose Owens, club president. “This is one of our fundraising events, and we had orders in excess of 1,000 plants. And, our members have come out to deliver them to the people who ordered them.”

In her driveway—a makeshift plant distribution headquarters—Owens helped club members sort the plants and box them up. Then, members loaded them into their cars and took them on their way.

“We enjoy delivering them,” said Linda Garnatz, the club’s interim second vice president-fundraising. “It’s a nice service that we provide for the community for participating in one of our fundraisers.”

Proceeds from the plant sales don’t go to a specific fund, Owens said. Instead, the club uses the money for its various charitable endeavors, such as education, home life or public projects.

Owens said she isn’t sure how long the club has been organizing this particular fundraiser but estimated it had been about three or four years.

This year’s delivery was the first for Glorida Hill, the club’s membership chairwoman, who joined the club a little over a year ago.

“It is a wonderful organization and it just does so much for the community of Temple Terrace,” she said. “We do a lot of giving back.”

The club’s next event will be its main fundraiser: the annual Spring Boutique & Luncheon, April 5, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Embassy Suites on the University of South Florida campus.

Hill estimated that there would be 30-40 vendors, selling everything from clothes and jewelry to home goods and potted plants. Tickets cost $35 and can be purchased by calling Hill at 813-984-0500 or Owens at 813-988-2000.

“It really is a fun event,” Hill said. “There’s nothing like shopping.”

Interested in giving back to the community by joining the Woman’s Club? Any woman can join, said Garnatz. Meetings take place at Woodmont Clubhouse on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

“It starts at 9:30 (a.m.) with a coffee,” she said. “And then we have our meeting.”
