Water Main Leak Causes 40th Street Detour

Southbound traffic is being diverted at Greenwood Avenue, according to the Tampa Water Department.

Motorists who travel 40th Street near Greenwood Avenue might want to take a different route for the next few days.

The Tampa Water Department has closed southbound 40th Street at the intersection with River Hills Drive while crews work to repair a leaking water main.

“Southbound traffic approaching this section of 40th Street is being detoured at Greenwood Avenue, left on River Hills Drive, and south on Lakeshore Drive to Hanlon Street,” according to a water department media release.

While repairs are expected to be complete later today, Jan. 29, the closing may remain in effect until Thursday as road restoration work is performed.

Considering the construction, officials are urging motorists to take alternative routes, if possible, through Thursday.
