WMNF 88.5 Hosts Outreach Event At Mojo Books And Music
The all-ages concert will feature three bands and local DJs.

Non-profit, community radio station WMNF 88.5 is hosting a free, all-ages Outreach concert, which will take place at on June 24 at 8 p.m.
The show will feature artists Ami Dang and S.H.V., and Tampa’s Russian Tsarlag. Local DJs will also be spinning music for the audience prior to the show.
Carlos Gonsalez is Russian Tsarlag’s lone member. He toured in the New England area earlier this year but has returned to Tampa to make music for independent cassette and vinyl release. He has also toured with S.H.V., and is currently preparing for a west coast tour with them.

Ami Dang is a sitarist based out of Baltimore, MD and is currently touring the east coast. Her music offers an alternative take on traditional sitar as she also incorporates vocals and electronics.
“The purpose of the WMNF 88.5 FM Outreach shows is to get new listeners
involved in WMNF in a direct way,” said Brigid Ochshorn, event host and station volunteer.

WMNF’s Outreach concerts also bring the community together through art and occasional spoken word events.
The station doesn’t pay artists for these types of events, but that doesn’t stop them from performing, Ochshorn said.
“These shows are a breath of fresh air for many people because not only are they free, but they continue to be hosted because people put their love of community radio and their love of performing ‘for art’s sake’ before their need of getting paid,” she said.
Mojo has hosted WMNF 88.5 FM events in the past, and according to Ochshorn, “They fit right in with the D.I.Y. small business ethic of WMNF business partners.”
This will be the first Outreach show at Mojo since the store’s .
“Last time we hosted a show at Mojo, it was winter, and still the place was packed,” Ochshrn said. “We had lots of folks standing outside during the chilliest part of the year listening for the whole concert.”
Station volunteers will also be on hand, passing out bumper stickers and free station program guides to the audience.
“These events engage the community by getting local and touring bands involved, and creating a free, eclectic atmosphere for young listeners to feel welcome and part of WMNF 88.5 FM’s mission and community,” Ochshorn said.
