At Devonshire, the Erickson Senior Living community at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., community members savor delicious dishes prepared by professional chefs using the freshest ingredients.
More importantly, each made-to-order meal provides the opportunity for social connection. Whether gathering with neighbors for a casual lunch or celebrating a special occasion with friends over dinner, dining is a highlight of life at Devonshire.
"Dining has been such a wonderful experience here!" says community member Elena Portoles.
Variety for every taste
Each of Devonshire's four on-site restaurants offers a distinct menu and atmosphere, providing a range of dining experiences for every occasion.
The Windsor Restaurant delivers an elevated steakhouse experience, featuring premium cuts such as filet mignon, New York strip, and veal chop, all presented with finesse. With jackets required for gentlemen, this is the perfect place for a special night out, birthday, or anniversary celebration.
The Cavendish boasts a refined, seafood-focused menu and views overlooking the pool. A planned renovation will introduce expanded indoor-outdoor seating, including a climate-controlled patio--designed for year-round use. The restaurant's seasonal dishes, made with fresh, flavorful produce, are very popular.
The Verandah Restaurant offers a more relaxed, country-club setting, serving breakfast, Sunday brunch, and a popular dinner service. The dining team continues to evolve the restaurant's experience, exploring a transition from buffet to a la carte service based on community member input.
New to Devonshire's dining scene is The Brighton, which combines deli favorites with a pub-style menu. Guests enjoy premium sandwiches, large entree salads, and comfort food classics, along with "fresh catch" selections and rotating specials. The Brighton serves lunch and offers walk-in dinner service.
"Our chefs prepare nearly 30 to 40 different options on a daily basis, with each restaurant showcasing a daily chef special. There's a variety of vegetarian dishes as well," notes Elena.
Bevs and bites
In addition, the fully restored Churchill Lounge has become a favorite gathering place for evening cocktails, First Friday Happy Hours with complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and special events such as Super Bowl Sunday celebrations and themed socials.
"The Dining and Resident Life departments team up with food and entertainment to celebrate First Friday Happy Hours," Elena says.
Other recent events, including a resident-led lobster dinner auction raising more than $10,000 for the Staff Appreciation Fund, highlight the energy and engagement the revitalized space brings to the community.
Powerful partnership
To ensure community members continue to enjoy five-star dining experiences, Dining Director Joseph Marinelli and his team maintain an open-door policy for feedback and suggestions.
"Dining touches community members' lives every day," he says. "We value their input and use it to refine our menus, introduce new recipes, and maintain the level of quality they expect."
Community members are welcome to share their thoughts through food forums, comment cards, and, of course, speaking one-on-one with chefs.
Marinelli and his team also meet with the resident culinary committee. "The members and I have the opportunity to meet frequently with Joseph and his staff to review menus and comments received from residents," says Elena, chair of the culinary committee.
Together, committee members act as a strong voice for their neighbors.
Time to socialize
Throughout the year, the dining team also creates delicious menus for special events at the community. In addition to recognizing all major holidays, the team schedules themed dinners, often inspired by a chef's passion or a community member's request.
"It's especially fun on the holidays to see what the chefs have prepared for us," Elena says.
Regardless of whether she's celebrating a holiday or simply catching up with a neighbor over dinner, Elena finds that socializing is the best part of her dining experiences at Devonshire.
"Because dining is such an important part of our day, we get together with friends, new residents, and prospective residents to show them what they can look forward to by moving to Devonshire," says Elena. "It's easy to see why we enjoy dining at Devonshire."
"We see dining as more than just a meal," Marinelli adds. "It's an opportunity for residents to come together, enjoy great food, and build connections."
