Palm Beach County approves $26M deal for second convention center hotel (wptv.com) — Palm Beach County has approved a $26 million deal for a second 400-room hotel next to the convention center in downtown West Palm Beach, a project officials say will boost tourism, jobs, and future expansion. Neighbors from nearby historic districts worry about parking, traffic, and rushed public notice, while one commissioner opposed the tax structure and loss of traditional property taxes.
3. IAADFS becomes Travel Retail Alliance of the Americas as new identity revealed in Cannes (moodiedavittreport.com) — West Palm Beach has been chosen to host the Summit of the Americas travel retail conference in 2027 and 2028 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, bringing industry leaders from across the hemisphere to town. The rebranded Travel Retail Alliance of the Americas says it will use the events to deepen connections and advocacy across airports, cruise, and duty-free sectors.
4. Florida Gas Prices Jump 18 Cents Before Weekend Decline (iheart.com) — Drivers in West Palm Beach are paying some of the highest gas prices in Florida, with the metro average around $4.52 per gallon, above the statewide $4.37. Prices jumped 18 cents last week before easing slightly, leaving local fill-ups roughly $21 more expensive than a year ago and squeezing household budgets heading into the weekend.
5. 'He was very special': Family of slain West Palm Beach minister honors his memory (wpbf.com) — Family and church members in West Palm Beach are mourning 31-year-old minister Akeem Moore, who was fatally shot on Ontario Place over the weekend. Relatives describe him as a gifted preacher and musician grounded in faith, while the suspected gunman remains jailed in Broward County awaiting extradition to Palm Beach County.
