As you began to leave your home when stay-at-home order ended, did you come to realize the downtown impacted your energy? The summertime heat, battling traffic, running errands, and ‘normal’ busyness of the everyday…may need energy that your body didn’t require when stuck at home.

Health and wellness specialist and West Palm resident Budge Collinson says, after months of needing less energy to get through a day at home, many will face an energy deficiency. Collinson says there are several ways to give your body the pick-me-ups needed to get going that aren’t based on gallons of coffee and energy drinks.

Those include:

  • Pickup your exercise routine – Exercise brings energy. As much as you may have tried, exercise routines for most of us during stay-at-home orders could not mirror what we were doing pre-pandemic. If you were working out before staying-at-home and stopped, it’s time to get going again. And finally if you have been waiting for the best time to start exercising, there is no better time than the present.

2.) Avoid energy drinks - Energy drinks contain high amounts of additives, such as artificial coloring, preservatives and sugars. They are also dehydrates which becomes especially dangerous in the summer as they have a reverse impact on boosting energy. Stimulants deplete minerals which are essential for proper heart health and hydration.

3.) Keep your immune system boosted with vitamins. Remember when your mom used to say “take your vitamins”? If you want a healthy energy pickup, Budge says this is one of the most underutilized tools. Some of Budge’s favorites include:

· CoQ10 which promotes cell and transfers energy in the cells.

· B Vitamins - help the body break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins

· Vitamin D - is known for its mood-boosting properties and is usually found in fatty fishes, milk and orange juice.

Collinson created the powdered vitamin supplement Youth Infusion (www.drinkyouthinfusion.com) to help others take in the daily dose of needed vitamins while also promoting more of the next healthy energy need.

4.) Drink water, water, water…. Our body is 60% water. As your body loses water you lose energy. This is incredibly important in the summer as you sweat and you lose that energy faster. Water is essential for all functions in the body.

5.) Yes Coffee is Ok, in moderation – there are several positive attributes to coffee. Budge says it is important to not make it the primary daily liquid (even though you may want to). Coffee contains caffeine which is a diuretic which can deplete the body of essential minerals. It’s important that if you have coffee, make sure you drink equal amounts of water and supplement that with a good multi vitamin-mineral.
