Hurricane Irma: Here's The Latest Breakdown Of West Palm Beach-Area Cellphone Outages

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Cellphone service is gradually returning to Florida four days after Hurricane Irma swept across the length of the state, downing trees and power lines in its path, according to the latest figures from the federal government.

The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday released a breakdown of cellphone outages by county in a status report on communications services. Overall, the agency said 18.1 percent of cell sites in Florida were out of service Wednesday, down from 24.6 percent Tuesday. That number was 5.3 percent in Georgia (down from 10.5 percent) and less than 1 percent in Alabama.

Palm Beach County

• 178 cell sites were out, or 24.5 percent (down from 33.6 percent).

Broward County

• 254 cell sites were out, or 27.5 percent (down from 38.2 percent).

Hendry County

• 35 cell sites were out, or 76.1 percent (down slightly from 78.3 percent).

Glades County

• 9 cell sites were out, or 30 percent (down from 43.3 percent).

Okeechobee County

• 22 cell sites were out, or 31.4 percent (up from 24.3 percent).

Martin County

• 21 cell sites were out, or 17.1 percent (down from 28.5 percent).
