Letโs Read is a community volunteer-based reading program established in 2003 by Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beachโs staff. The program encourages a love of reading by training volunteers to bring story time into the classrooms of Title I pre-schools and elementary schools in the City of West Palm Beach. Letโs Read is designed to help children in preschool through second grade develop a love of reading and libraries by bringing great books and adult mentors into the classroom. During the school year, Letโs Read volunteers share stories and rhymes, distribute library cards, encourage library use, and support reading at home. Each week, approximately 900 children are reached by the Letโs Read program.
Letโs Read volunteer readers are assigned to a classroom that they will visit for 30 minutes once a week for a 10-week session. Due to COVID-19, the Letโs Read story time will be virtual this school year, and volunteers will be reading to classrooms via Google Meet.
