Plans were recently filed for a second Sarasota Trader Joe's, the Tampa Bay Business Journal said.
A building being remodeled at 8199 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota is believed to be the future home of a new Trader Joe’s, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.
Last year, the company was also reportedly looking for a second location in Tampa to relieve the grocer’s busy South Tampa location on West Swann Avenue, TBBJ reported in May.
There are 631 Trader Joe’s locations in the U.S. as of earlier this month, 206 of which are in its home state of California, according to the data company ScrapeHero. There are 26 locations in Florida.
When the company chooses to open a new store, it takes into account population density and draw, site access, traffic patterns and parking, marketing executives Tara Miller and Matthew Sloan said in a 2024 episode of the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast, according to the episode transcript.
“This is very deliberate, and for us, what's important is that it's controlled growth,” Sloan said in the episode, according to the transcript. “We have to grow in a way that fits our business model.”
