Kitten Rescued From Storm Drain

Hillsborough County deputies dove in for the save.

A fluffy gray kitten has a new lease on life courtesy of a Hillsborough County resident with excellent hearing.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called in to help Hillsborough County Pet Resources when a resident reported hearing a kitten in distress under Gunn Highway. When officials arrived in the area where the cries could be heard, there was no mistaking the sounds were coming from a storm drain just west of Linebaugh Avenue, the sheriff’s office wrote in an email to media. The kitten, however, couldn’t be seen.

Answering the call for extra help were deputies Josh Dahlback, Richard George, Michael Pecylak and Joe Saponara.

Taking action, Deputies Saponara and George climbed into the drains on both sides of the road to coax the critter out of hiding. It seems it was sitting smack dead in the middle of the drain under the road.

The little critter was handed over to Pet Resources for safe keeping. It’s estimated to be between six and eight weeks old.
