Shooting Suspect Crashed Into Cruisers, Deputies Say

The victim in the Monday morning Tampa shooting suffered life-threatening injuries.

A suspect’s attempts to flee the scene of a Monday morning shooting didn’t end up quite as planned.

Rather than pull off a clean getaway, the man somehow managed to crash into two Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office patrol cars. While the cruisers suffered “severe damage,” the deputies were not injured.

The incident began to unfold around 2:15 a.m. when a 911 call about a male shooting victim came in. Deputies responded to the corner of West Waters Avenue and Pinehurst Drive in Town ‘N Country. There they found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, an email from the sheriff’s office said.

As deputies pulled up to the scene, they also encountered the possible suspect, the email noted. The sighting prompted the attempt to make contact with the man, which resulted in the crash.

Further details, including the names of those involved, are not yet available. It is unclear if the suspect was injured in the crash.
